Books for Little Girls
Tracy asked if I had any book recommendations for little girls and instead of just answering her personally, I decided to post about it. There are some excellent books out there to teach younger girls about desiring to be godly and growing in the Lord while their are young. I love these books because little girls are so impressionable and these books are beautiful. They leave a lasting impression on their hearts.
Last year at the homeschool convention, I bought The True Princess for Evie. It is such a beautiful story...and if your little girls likes princess themed stories this will be perfect while teaching her something as well. The focus of the book is having a servant's heart...doing for others. That is what makes a girl a true princess and beautiful in the king's eyes.
God's Wisdom for Little Girls by Elizabeth George is a classic and one we have had for years. It goes through Proverbs 31 and describes what a godly girl is. It has beautiful pictures and scripture on every page! The one for boys is great, too. It is called God's Wisdom for Little Boys. In fact, we like the pictures so much we have 2 books and we are going to cut out and frame some of the art work to put in JH's room!
One that I also highly recommend is Life Lessons from the Princess and the Kiss. This wonderful book stresses Biblical purity in a story form...it emphasizes that waiting on your husband for that first kiss is the best way. It is just a lovely book.
Beautiful Girlhood is excellent! We have the revised edition and I really like it, but I have heard that the original version by Mable Hale is better. It is a good book to read together. It is longer and more of a chapter book, so it might be better for girls a little older. My big girls read it when they were older...probably 10-12. I will most likely read it to Evie at around 8 years old.
Another book that is a must have for all children is The Hedge of Thorns by John Carrol. It teaches through a heart wrenching story what can happen when children do not stay within the boundaries God and their parents have for them. It is a true story and teaches a great lesson about obedience and consequences. There is a picture book and a chapter book available at Lamplighter Publishing.
Leading Little Ones to God would be a good book to read to teach a child about the doctrines of God from God's Word...perfect for boys and girls. Each lesson has a very interesting explanation of the topic(like forgiveness, what is sin, etc) with a hymn, scripture reading and a prayer. We use it during family worship time some and also in school time as bible instruction for the younger children.

I am a stay at home mother to 4. I am very blessed to have a godly husband who loves the Lord and his family. I welcome the days of much needed grace, the times of sweet victories, and the tears of trials, knowing it is all for God's glory. I want my lifesong to sing to Him,the author and finisher of my faith. Soli Deo Gloria--To the Glory of God alone.

Thanks Kim! I'm going to look into some of these.
We just finished Leading Littles Ones to God and really liked it.
All of those are great books. I would also add the book "Little Threads" by Elizabeth Prentiss. This is a wonderful book that is a favorite at our house. It compares the lives of 2 little girls referred to as Tangle Thread and Golden Thread. It's a wonderful book to teach about obedience and being a blessing to others around you. Actually, we haven't found a Lamplighter book that we haven't liked yet!
Oh, that sounds wonderful, Jennifer!
Wonderful picks Kim! I just ordered God's Wisdom for Little Boys. We have several Lamplighters, but I would love to have a bigger library of these precious classics :)
Thanks for the recommendations!
Another favorite of mine from Lamplighters that really speaks beautifully about purity is The Three Weavers.
Thanks Kim, I'll have to check those out at the homeschool convention!
Kim! Thank you so much! I just ordered a bunch of these and put some in my cart for later. I can't wait to get them. I even ordered God's Wisdom for Boys for Ethan too. The Princess one was a must for her because she is in love with them.
Thanks again!!!
