Truth for Today
This is from my John MacArthur's *Truth for Today*. I thought it was very good.
I think so many times, either from certain churches teachings and such, we come to think of spiritual as a mystical type attainment through a wishful thinking attitude. But really, if we search scripture it is all about obedience to His Word and growing in that. Being spirit-filled is simply obeying and walking in God's ways. It is not some kind of additional step to salvation as some may believe.
Knowing God is knowing what the Bible says about Him and obeying what He says to do. A true believer will want this in their life.
Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you. Matthew 28:20
You cannot be a disciple apart from a life of obedience and a desire to follow Christ as LORD. One of the most important ways we obey is by teaching others to obey His commandments. Regarding the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, "He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things I said to you." (John 14:26) Through the Word of God, the Spirit has made that teaching available to every believer. And every believer is to submit himself to it in obedience.

I am a stay at home mother to 4. I am very blessed to have a godly husband who loves the Lord and his family. I welcome the days of much needed grace, the times of sweet victories, and the tears of trials, knowing it is all for God's glory. I want my lifesong to sing to Him,the author and finisher of my faith. Soli Deo Gloria--To the Glory of God alone.

Simple truth, profound impact for our lives! Thanks for this practical word on obedience.
Amen, Kim. I love this insight! Obedience to His Word (and the desire for it in our lives) is not the means to salvation, but evidence of it. Great post!
Amen. So often we make it so much more difficult than it really needs to be!
Momrn2,I agree...I know I have in the past!
Thanks for you comment!
Kim
I really like John MacArthur. He has a keen ability to tell it like it is!
Great insight---thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing this, especially--"Knowing God is knowing what the Bible says about Him and obeying what He says to do." Makes me think of James' exhortation to be doers not just hearers.
This is such a timely post. This seems to be a one of those hot issues right now in the church and among bloggers. Thanks, Kim!
I love John McArthur, in fact my husband has a bunch of his audio tapes. "Obedience" is so key and too often left out of the soft serve religion.
Kim,
Thank you for this lesson! I can't believe I didn't ever go to John MacArthur's church. If we ever move back to Los Angeles, I am glad to know his church is there.
Thank you for the reminder, this is so true. And it is true what Momrn2 said, we make it too difficult.
Great reminder of why we should be in the Word consistently.
"You cannot be a disciple apart from a life of obedience and a desire to follow Christ as LORD." I would hope these words depict my life. It is by His grace that I walk with Him.
Kim, you're a straight shooter on this one. Obedience to His Word is the bottom line.
If you don't know His Word, then you can't and won't obey it. If you don't or won't obey His Word, then you don't know it.
If the bottom line were taught, churches wouldn't have to serve Jesus-plus. Christ alone would be glorified.
