Thursday Thirteen

An excerpt from "An Orphan's Prayer"
Even as I lay in the darkness
each night somehow I feel assured,
That no matter how lost I appear, I am not alone.
Holy hands guard my steps; sacred fingers wipe my tears, touching my lonely heart.
The one who made me,
The God that knew me before I was born,
Hears me every time I call.
He whispers His promises in my ear.
I listen with hope to His voice.

Thirteen Things To Do While We Wait for Baby Lydia:
1) Pray for Lydia and her birthmother. We are praying specifically for Lydia and her needs being met while in China. We are praying that she has loving caretakers, is being fed adequately, and that she is receiving attention. Also, we are praying that God would be watchful and very protective over her physically and emotionally...guarding her heart and preparing her for a family. We are praying that Lydia's birthmother will come to know Christ--that someone, through this difficult time, will share the gospel with her and that she will see her need for a Savior. Will you pray for them with us?
2) We have to remodel upstairs bonus space and make it a bedroom and bathroom for our oldest child.
3) Redecorate/paint Jack Henry's new big boy bedroom and bathroom. I'll give more details as we get going with it.
4) Repaint all the children's bedrooms because we are moving everyone around.
5) Begin collecting stuffed panda bears for Lydia's nursery. (Her nursery is off of our master bedroom)
6) Read as many books on adoption and China as I can.
7) Do a unit study on China with the children.
8) Buy new furniture...for JH's room and our oldest daughter.
9) Update our adoption website(visit us here!) to keep everyone posted as we wait.
10) Affirm God's timing and purposes for our family even though the wait is long.
11) Save $$$ for the trip to China...that will be hard since we are spending so much to get the house ready for another child...God will provide!
12) Study up on traveling to China and learn as much as we can from others on what to pack...precautions to take...what to expect, etc.
13) Enjoy the journey!!! Knowing that the journey to our daughter is an important part of Lydia joining us!

I am a stay at home mother to 4. I am very blessed to have a godly husband who loves the Lord and his family. I welcome the days of much needed grace, the times of sweet victories, and the tears of trials, knowing it is all for God's glory. I want my lifesong to sing to Him,the author and finisher of my faith. Soli Deo Gloria--To the Glory of God alone.

Oh Kim, what a life-giving list! You whole family is being so blessed by this journey!!
It makes me think that I should make kind of a master list of all we need to do in the next two months!! We have only one room to paint, thank goodness! But thousands of dollars to raise! Like you said, God will provide!
Wow!! You're going to be busy!
We have some friends who adopted a little girl from China a few years ago. They named their little girl Lily. Anyway, we received daily updates from them via email while they were in China for two weeks. They also sent pictures of some very interesting food. My favorite pic was of the "duck foot soup". Needless to say, they lost weight while on their trip. Their subsequent adoptions have been from South American countries. I think they have seven or eight kids now--4 biological and three adopted.
That's quite a list. I'm still praying about your actuall trip there and your anxieties. It will be here before you know it!
You are a good picture poster, so keep us in the loop with some good before and afters! I know God has certainly grown your patience during this time. What a sweet homecoming it will be:)
I hope that you keep this journal for Lydia. I collected 7 little dolls for my daughter when I was pregnant, and they are so precious to her. Just the idea that I loved her before she was born is precious to both of us.
Your love for Lydia is a gift now and when she comes. You're a great mom.
Kim,
I have been so busy this week I have not been able to leave many comments at my favorite blogs.
Your daughter is already so blessed! It will be such a sweet gift to her when she learns that she was thought of, prayed for, and planned for before she was born.
What a great list. I have found that numbers 1, 10 and 13 are soooo important, especially since we have been skipped 2 months in a row. These are great ideas.
What a wonderful list, Kim. I think that your daughter is a very blessed little girl, indeed. Blessings!
You are a great mom and I look up to you....
How exciting to welcome another precious daughter.
God Bless...
Liz
What a beautiful TT! It sounds like your family is in for a great journey! My prayers will certainly be with your family as you wait for Lydia and also for Lydia's care and for her birth mother. Thank you for sharing your blessing.
I loved reading your list Kim and feeling how excited you are to get your home ready for baby Lydia. You have your hands full but knowing the glorious end result will make it all go that much quicker.

Wow, you are going to be busy! You'll have to share pictures of the new rooms.
You have so much to look forward to, so exciting!
I will be praising the Lord when I read that you have finally brought her home! I have a lot to do to prepare for our child, too. It's overwhelming sometimes, but I can just do things one at a time and trust the Lord's timing! I'm praying for little Lydia!
Just came across your blog for the first time, I think from Everyday Mommy. My husband and I just had our first child five months ago, and we hope God blesses us with a big family, with some of our kids coming to us through adoption. We've wanted to adopt a girl from China for a long time, and we plan to name her Lydia! I pray for your Lydia and her birth mother and for God's provision as you complete your adoption journey!
Great list, Kim! There are lots of "things" we can do to keep busy during the wait, but #1 is, of course, the best and most important! I did a similar list quite some time ago and am only beginning to scratch the surface...
