A Little Drama
I love where we live...it is in a neighborhood, but the houses are all spread out on at least 2 acre lots. It feels like the country. Across the street there is a small pasture with horses. Down the road, there is a huge plot of land with stables and horses. It really is beautiful! We can see horses grazing from 2 directions!!!
We have a dog. I don't say that proudly. Molly is a 7 year old Cocker Spaniel...she loves us so much! Her love is so strong for us that she hates anybody that is not in our family. She violently attacks anyone and everyone who steps foot on our property. Children, nice adults...it doesn't matter...if they are not us, she attacks! The groomer would not even take her unless she was sedated, so we have bought our own clipper and groomer set. Mike will be giving her a hair cut and bath soon. Stay tuned for those pictures!!! The vet has to sedate her for shots and exams. She does like my parents, though. They are regular visitors and plus she has stayed with them when we have gone on trips and such. But, that's it...everyone else is out to do *her* family harm and she will defend us to the end. I have heard female Cocker Spaniels can be this way...very territorial and protective.
We keep Molly in an electric fence in our yard..so she won't attack friendly joggers and the UPS man...who is a regular at our house. But, yesterday, I guess her battery was dead....so when I began to take the little ones on a wagon ride to see the horses, Molly decided she wanted to follow along...or lead the way, depending on how you look at it. Abigail was riding on her unicycle and the little ones were in the wagon...so I thought, well, this once we will let her go...but I did make Abigail go get the leash...so we could at least leash her if we needed to. Wrong...Molly ran away and would not let us! She is also very disobedient. So,I thought to myself, I am going to go anyway and maybe she will stay with us. We probably won't see any people anyway...so it will be fine.
Little did I know that Molly does not like horses. I had not thought of that.
We went to the fence to say hello to the sweet horses...they were off in the field, but they usually come in slowly when we call. Molly, of course did not see the horses...she went under the fence and started running around the pasture, sniffing like she was so excited to be with her beloved family in the wide open spaces.
The horses saw her, though....and began a stampede towards her. Molly did not see them coming....she was too busy sniffing all the new smells...we were sreaming...Molly, GET OUT...COME HERE MOLLY! Abigail was crying and the little ones did not know what to do. The horses were running very fast and they did not look happy! Finally, Molly saw them and her little fiesty self began to bark viciously at them...by now they are close. I am thinking...okay they are going to kick her to death...this is it....Molly is too stubborn to know to get out...she is going to try and fight them. I was terrified...also with the little ones, I did not want them witnessing their sweet little Molly getting stomped to death. Molly did bark and try to attack them...but of course, finally she ran out under fence and was safe.
She continued to bark at them and the horses were pacing back and forth by the fence...I was still a little nervous that the dog might cause them to get all spooked and come after us. Somehow, I managed to get some pictures...I had taken the camera to get pics of the little ones with the horses...not knowing what drama was going to take place. I made sure the little ones stood back from the fence, though. Notice how the horses are all eyeing Molly.
Then, just as I think that we need to go home...Molly dog runs back under the fence and tries to attack these animals that are 100 times her size. They come at her with feet up and all spooked with fire in their eyes ...Molly barks her vicious bark and runs back under the fence....all the time while we are screaming at Molly to get out. Abigail was crying and screaming so loud...I'm sure the whole neighborhood was wondering what in the world was going on.
Molly will not be going to visit the horses EVER again.
Here is Abigail on her unicycle...isn't she talented??? Yes, she is...a unicycle is very hard to learn to ride!!! So hard that I will not even attempt it.

I am a stay at home mother to 4. I am very blessed to have a godly husband who loves the Lord and his family. I welcome the days of much needed grace, the times of sweet victories, and the tears of trials, knowing it is all for God's glory. I want my lifesong to sing to Him,the author and finisher of my faith. Soli Deo Gloria--To the Glory of God alone.

This *exact* same thing happened here last week. Not with Tex (our cocker-see we do have a lot in common) but with our neighbor's retriever who believe it or not is quite aggressive. "Chico" the Golden Retriever was in the pasture behind our house and when the horses saw him they started a full-on stampede. I think they do it for fun because when it's all over there's a lot of bucking and neighing going on, like they just had the time of their lives!!!
Female cockers are aggressive sometimes and very protective. I had one growing up who had puppies. I climbed the fence one day and she took a piece out of my backside. Your kids are the ones she protects instead of her puppies. Tex is part Springer Spaniel and the only thing he does to ward off strangers is to pee profusely in excitement when he sees them. It's real nice.
Abigail on that unicle makes my heart beat fast. That would make me a nervous wreck. My Emma would love it. NO way is she seeing this picture :)
Blessings. Love the peeks at your life!
Now THAT is an adventure. I would be so scared. For my dog, for my kids....I'm glad it all worked out okay! Oh, and Sarah loves the pictures of the horses.....

Oh, I can SO see my little weenie dog, Zaccheus, doing that. He charges the garbage truck each week! Oh, my word. Just reading that gave me stress! I'm glad Molly dog is safe.
And, we had a unicycle growing up. I tried *so* hard to learn to ride it, but alas. I need at least two wheels... Abigail must have really good balance!
Here's hoping your next walk involves a little less drama!
Goodness gracious!!
That would have been scary! Not the nice, calm peaceful walk you first imagined! Glad everything worked out okay!
That's a crazy story! So much for a simple walk and kid pics, but these pics (not to mention you blog archives)will let you tell a great story to your grandkids someday. :^) And kudos to Abigail. I'd be afraid to even try that.
Yikes! We have a yellow lab, who is not your average lab! He is almost 7 and is still hyper, jumpy and licks us like crazy! He does let the kids climb all over him, as long as he can lick them! He at least barks at anything that enters the yard. We have the invisible fence, too, for the stubborn dog!
Now that is a confident dog! That was an exciting walk!
Oh my goodness! What excitement! Your poor little ones...
We have a large lab pup who is now over six months old and she can be fiesty, disobedient...plus...she's HUGE! She's driving us crazy, but until we can afford to do obedience training, we're going to have to muddle through and train her the best we can. (But did I mention she's fiesty?)
Those horses are beautiful...it looks so serene you'd never know the story behind it! LOL
Kim, I can see the headlines...“A fearless dog, stampeding horses, children in a wagon and a girl on a unicycle” sounds like a movie in the making.
Holy cow, Kim! What an adventure. I'll bet Abigail was glad to get Molly back home safely. How scary.
Sounds like your pup really livened the walk up!
Hi Kim!!!
Just wanted to let you know that I've "tagged" you for a meme!

I have a friend who keeps chickens and the cockerel is just as territorial as this. He's had kids pinned up against cars before now.
