Hello Out There!!!
I feel like I have been gone forever...but even on my *break* I have posted a few things here and there. I just can't stay away for too long. I guess it is hard to leave friends like you for any amount of time. Thanks so much for reading and encouraging me so much through your sweet comments. I am going through a really busy stage right now and I think once we get into our fall routine again, I will feel somewhat organized and calm again.
We start our school year on Monday. I have all the books ready and pencils and paper bought. I have made my annual run to Staples and we have everything we need and then some...cute plaid and paisley folders, colored pencils, fun neon sticky notes...you know, the necessities. Although Evie and I have been doing school all summer, I am making a big deal out of her first day. This is actually the year before kindergarten...but she doesn't know the difference and she loves all the *school stuff* we do...so why not make it fun for her? We have been doing *Teach your child to read in 100 Easy lessons* and let me say this: It works!!! She is on lesson 27 and reading many words already! Can you believe that??? After we finish this book we will transition to Phonics Pathways. She is doing great! I have all of Jack Henry's boxes organized and ready. I had a good friend ask me if JH is the type child who will sit and just play quietly with the things in the designated boxes while I am doing school with the others and I replied with, *of course not...nope he sure isn't*.(Is any child naturally?) Ha! But, I will be training him, too. Kids learn really well with routine, so I am hoping when he sees me doing school, he will get used to doing his boxes during that time. I will have to stop at times to remind him of what he is to be doing. We will see how it all goes....
Jack Henry has been going to speech now for 2 weeks. It is going well. I really like Mrs. Jessica and I am already seeing some progress at home. He is imitating words more and he is saying more syllables...instead of saying ta for tractor, he is saying ta-ta...(2 syllables). Does that make sense? He is doing much better, but I realize this will be a process. Today, Mrs. Jessica put headphones on JH so he could hear sounds amplified. She really emphasized the ending of the words...he doesn't usually put endings on words, so maybe this will help him hear the ending sounds better. I'm very pleased so far!
About the house...things are going smoothly. All the rooms are painted and the three girls have been moved into their rooms. The mattresses are out of the playroom, so I am happy! We have not moved Jack Henry yet. We decided we wanted things to settle into a nice routine this fall and then we would move him gradually into his new bed. We will start with just naps in the afternoon and then gradually get him in there all the time. I am having window treatments made for the rooms. That project has been what I have been working on recently. I think we have decided on fabrics, so now we just have to get the fabric ordered and sell one of our cars to pay for it.
A lot has happened in the last few weeks...I have wanted to help in our church's student ministries(youth) for a while now. I have prayed and discussed this with Mike many times...he always said, that would be great, but not now. Mainly because I have been having babies and we don't put them in the nursery anymore than we have to...plus, we have seen that my time needed to be focused on the little ones and not on ministries outside of the home. My husband is very *wise* and very protective of me and my time. He was right and I have learned that, once again, my timing is not always best. I am thankful for a godly husband. Well, Mike and I have decided that this year I can get involved! I am going to lead a small group of girls. It will be a mentoring type relationship on Wednesday nights. After our student ministries pastor teaches, the youth then divide up into small groups to go over the teaching, ask questions, and pray. I'm looking forward to this opportunity to help encourage and lead these girls. Would you pray for me that I will have wisdom with these girls...and also, that in all I do I will give glory to God and not myself? This ministry will take up some time and I will need God's wisdom to know how much I can do and can't do. I will begin on August 15!!!
Now, back to my break.
Thank you for praying for Amy...That is one blog I have continued reading during my break...and I won't stop either. She is just a precious person and she is enduring such a trial. Her faith is strong, but we all know that her strength comes from the Lord. She is needing to lean on Him now more than ever.

I am a stay at home mother to 4. I am very blessed to have a godly husband who loves the Lord and his family. I welcome the days of much needed grace, the times of sweet victories, and the tears of trials, knowing it is all for God's glory. I want my lifesong to sing to Him,the author and finisher of my faith. Soli Deo Gloria--To the Glory of God alone.

Kim,
It sounds like things are going well. I just know that the girls who are mentored by you, will be affected in wonderful ways. I am certain that God will use you in their lives to bring them closer to Him. What a blessing that God uses us in that way! We are continuing to pray for Lydia and can't wait till we get to "meet" her! :)
Hi Kim!
Great update---you "sound" upbeat and excited to start school again. I love shopping for school supplies!
I will pray for you and your youth group. That's something I want to do once our baby is a bit older so I'll be interested to read what you come up with.
Blessings~
Oh! We are just about 3 1/2 weeks away from getting our referral! I'm so excited I'm about to burst!
We use small groups in our student ministry on Wednesday nights, with the same structure and it works really well! I, too, am stepping back into student ministry and I am very excited!
Sounds like all is going great!
Welcome back! You are so busy and it sounds like you got a lot done. Yay!!!
Best wishes as you take on new roles. I know you will bless those girls as you bless many women in blogland.
We're starting on Monday too, Kim!
And I do think your husband is wise. Sometimes I want to volunteer for too much and my hubby says, "WHOA!" and I remember how much I have to do.....:-)
I used 100 Easy lessons also and both of my boys did really well with it. I plan on using it for baby #3 when the time comes. Blessings to you!
Best of luck with your new endeavor! It sounds like something you and your husband have carefully and prayerfully considered for a while. I hope that you and the girls involved will be greatly blessed by your involvement!
Oh--it is good to "hear" from you! I, too am taming back the blogging. My schedule is drastically changing in a couple of weeks and I just won't have the same kind of time that I have had in the past year to blog.
I am ready for the routine, too. Summer is always fun, but the routing of fall and school is super fun, too! Have a great "break"...LOL. I tended to not be able to stay away during my hiatus from blogging either! Let's say it together..."we are addicted!" Have a great day! ; )
I have missed you, Kim. But, boy, you DO have a lot going on.
I will pray for you in your new ministry. Working with youth girls is challenging yet so rewarding. I know you will be a blessing to them (and they will be to you, too).
OHHHHH...you will be GREAT leading a group of girls!!!! They are going to learn SO much from you! What a gift for them!!!
How old is your girl that is going through 100 lessons to read? I have often wondered if I should start that with Samuel. He'll be 4 in Aug. Any thoughts?
It's great to hear from you, and I am so glad things are going so well!! I hope you have a great school year!
Shawnda,
Hi! I started Evie in the Spring and have been doing it about 3 times a week...with quite a bit of reviewing lessons on our *off* day. She actually goes and gets the book out of her locker and practices her new words on her own!!! She has found success with it, so she loves doing it! Evie is 4 and will be 5 in January. One word of caustion on starting this young...it may not be for everbody. I looked for signs before beginning....like being bored with coloring and preschool type things. She has been memorizing scripture easily and she knew all of her letters and sounds before beginning. This teaches the sounds, so they do not have to know the sounds yet, but I think it made it easier for her to grasp everything...I think boys typically have a harder time sitting still for teaching times...I may not begin this early with JH.
Just some thoughts.
Good to hear from you , Kim! We've been really busy too getiing school started. I like your box idea and may have to try that with Rosie. She likes to "do" worksheets while the kids do their math and writing, but normally is done before they are.
Look at all you're getting accomplished! :) I see you're posting again, I'll be back more often! God bless your hard work and planning!
