Sick Mommy
Well, Christmas at our house went pretty well, but as soon as it was over, I was a sick pup.

It all started Christmas Eve, when as soon as we got the children in bed after our listening to the Christmas story and opening our one gift from the person that drew our name, I began having terrible stomach pains. It was either the food I had that evening or the beginning of a virus...I am sure it was the food, because as most of you know, I have been eating very healthy over the last few months...all natural, lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains, lots of salmon,etc...well,I decided since it is Christmas, I would just eat like everybody else and enjoy some of the Christmas goodies. I made appetizers for us all to enjoy for Christmas Eve. I made yummy spinach dip, chili cheese dip, cocktail hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls, sausage balls, various homemade baked items...snickerdoodles, peanut butter shortbread(private joke), cranberry white chocolate oatmeal cookies(yum), white chocolate covered pretzels...I did serve all of these goodies with organic tortilla chips. I ate healthy portions of it all...later to suffer. My tummy hurt so bad, Mike even offered to take me to the ER, because he was not sure what was wrong. After various meds...Pepcid AC, Mylanta, etc...it finally got better.(about 12:30am) Mike was so sweet to get all the stockings ready(usually my job). Thankfully, he had already put together the toys that needed it a few nights before. He just arranged all the gifts by the child's stocking and it was ready. I did nothing, but lie there and moan. It was sad.

As soon as the stomach pain ended, I had some minor body aches, probably from some low grade fever. So, that night and all of Christmas day I felt kinda bad...fevery, but not in the bed sick. I still managed to prepare all the dishes to take to my mom's house for our Christmas dinner. We had our Christmas breakfast at our home and then went to my parent's house to open more gifts and enjoy time with them. My nephew, Jared, was also in town to celebrate with us. My sister(his mom) and their family live in Alaska, so while he has been a college student at Morehead State Univeristy in Kentucky, he comes here for school breaks. That is always fun, he is a great guy! We had our Christmas with them and then came back home. I was feeling bad and VERY tired. Do you other moms feel exhausted after Christmas or is it just me??? I always pray that the Lord would give me joy and stamina in serving others, but in the midst of it all,I get utterly exhausted! Is something wrong with me??? This time it was more than tiredness, I was sick!

So after an evening of playing with new things, a Christmas movie with lots of popcorn, and a couple of games, we all went to bed. In the middle of the night, I awoke with extreme chills. I had about 103 temp and felt horrible! The next 2 days I had pretty high fever and body aches that were terrible, plus an excruciating headache. Yesterday, I started feeling a little better, enough to get up and take a shower, which was greatly needed by this point! Today, I am much better, but still have a lingering headache and some back pain. I have never had some much ibuprofen and aspirin. I thought I was getting the flu, but thankfully it must have been some kind of shorter lived virus or something. Mike was able to get off work early one day and the big girls were an extreme help. I pretty much camped out in our bedroom watching TLC, Fox news, or Discovery channel for 2-3 days. I felt too bad to do anything else. I NEVER watch TV, so at first this was kinda fun(not really fun to be shivering under 3 blankets, constantly having to move because every inch of my body ached from the fever)...but after about half a day of *What not to Wear*, I was ready to get out of the house! So, today, I plan on getting out for a long walk. I'm actually feeling well enough to do this. I am hoping no one else in my family gets this sickness.

This was not how I anticipated our Christmas to be...or the girls Christmas break. The big girls ended up taking care of the little ones all week on their break...I hate that...but they did it, without complaining and actually enjoying it. I am thankful for their attitudes to help mom out when needed. Through all of this, I realize my imperfections and it is okay. These kinds of things help us grow, I think...to be less self sufficient and more dependent on God and His plans for us.

Sick on Christmas! That is the pits. I ended up with strep-throat a week ago, so I endured the antibiotic stomach ailment that comes with taking Azithromycin.

While I haven't been sick with a virus, I can totally relate to your stomach misery (4 more weeks to go!) and I will pray that it does not make it's way through your family. Look how they all came together to create such a sweet Christmas and take care of Momma ;)

Rest and recooperate and enjoy your walk!

Did "What Not To Wear" cause you to feel the need to purge your closet? I always feel like I have "nothing" to wear after watching that show!

Blessings Kim!

Kim,

I had to comment so you would know you were not alone in your pain on Christmas. I am sorry you experienced not feeling well on the day that we so look forward to.

As for me, we had family in town, we have three young children and we usually have a few family commitments. On Christmas eve, I began to experience a lot of tooth pain. It was where I had a root canal 6 months ago. Well, to make a long story not as long, I had a huge infection which traveled throughout my jaws and down into my neck, all on Christmas! My husband was so sweet! On Christmas morning, he called my dentist, a few times! He got me my prescriptions for the EXTREME pain I was in. The medication never even worked for more than an hour. I took all that was prescribed due to the pain (I rarely ever take medicine, not even Tylenol!) I am very sensitive to meds and it caused me to start shaking and I couldn't stop. My husband called the paramedics Christmas night. I ended up going for an emergency dental appt the day after Christmas. I am so much better now but it was very humbling. I have so much more compassion for people in chronic pain who cannot find relief. I am so grateful for the good health I normally enjoy. God is good to give us these seasons to make us more grateful I think.

Sorry so long! Glad you are better.

Blessings to you.

Oh, how awful to be sick on Christmas! I hope you're feeling better. Although WE were well, my husband's sister's family was sick so we had to postpone our christmas day festivities for a couple of days. I hate to think about this, but now we have some sniffles going on over here.....hmmmm.

btw,your house looked wonderful!

Oh, Kim, I am sooo sorry to hear that you have been sick. And on Christmas! I hope that you really are getting better. Isn't it a blessing to have older kids that help out when needed? I will be praying that no one else gets it. I hope you have a better New Years Day than Christmas Day. Blessings!

I am glad you are feeling better!! It is so nice to have older kids that can help with the younger ones.:) You have such a great attitude about it all! It is hard as a mom to be sick anytime and especially Christmas.

I pray you continue to feel better!

Oh, I'm so sorry! We've been sick here, too. It "landed" the day after Christmas for us, thankfully. Like you, it brings my imperfections to the forefront and makes me realize how much I must truly depend on the Lord. He is so, so good.

I always feel so bad when people are sick on Christmas! My nephew had something during the night Christmas Eve and all day Christmas. Poor guy! I am glad you are feeling better...and YES! Exhausted isn't even close to what I felt this year. I made my mom a quilt and that took a good amount of time :) then all the baking...I can't even tell you. Late nights of wrapping and all because I still wanted to have a social life and have people over and accept dinner and party invites during this season....so most of my "must do" things had to get done late at night. It is fun, in a way, but very exhausting.

It really is nice to have older children you can depend on when you need help.

Hope you can enjoy your New Year!

Oh no, Kim! I'm just getting caught up on blog reading after being sick this weekend. I'm so sorry you were sick on Christmas! What sweet big girls you have. My big girl volunteered to "clean the whole house" while I was in bed sick. All of not-quite-five-years-old and has such a servant's heart, I hope she stays that way. Instead, I got her to sit beside me and we looked at our Christmas cards from this year. She was excited to see your family in our book, as always! I'm glad you're feeling better. I'm glad I'm feeling better! Now, we have Birthday Season to get through - let's all stay well!!!!
