For Such A Time As This...
May 21, 2008...a day I will not ever forget. We came home from church late that night and Gracie made a quick phone call to a friend, Brittany. She came down stairs to tell us some terrible news that Brittany had just heard on the news. Actually, she asked me to leave the room because she knew how upset I would be...so I left the room and she told Mike. I heard Mike say NO! I had to know what this was all about and I went back in the room to hear Mike describe what had happened to me as he turned on the news...
The words from Mike made me immediately break into tears...and I don't even personally know the Chapman's. I'm not sure if it was because of the way the accident happened or that we have adoption in common...or because we have their family picture in our dossier file box where we worked and worked on our paperwork for adopting our sweet little one. We just felt so badly for them and immediately I began to pray for them. I was weeping for them and with them.
We, who are believers, can find solace and comfort in God's Word...if we really trust it. We know His Word promises us that ALL things work together for those who love God and are called according to His purpose. But, this is hard to accept and understand...a small child, five year old Maria-the youngest of the Chapman's 6 children, struck by an suv driven by a brother who loved her dearly...a two folded tragedy for this dear family...not only grieving the tragic loss of a child, but seeing the heart break of the older brother. But, we must take God for what He says to us in His Word...that is what faith is. God is good and always does what is good. God is just and holy and His plans are gloriously right all the time.
Now,I believe God may revealing Himself to many through the media this week and I am asking you to pray. There will be many who will hear the Chapman's story that would normally not be tuned into anything related to God and I know God's glory will be seen through their testimony of faith. I am praying that all who hear about the goodness of God will bow their knees to the God of this universe and trust Him...no matter where they are in life...no matter what difficulty they may be going through...that through this tragedy, God will be magnified in their hearts. A watching world will be hearing about the Lord and I pray many will respond to Him.
Tomorrow morning on ABC's Good Morning America, the Chapman's will appear to the world for the first time since the accident, sharing their story. Jim Houser on his blog, says that it will be in the 7 o'clock hour, but that could be changed. I hope you all can watch and be praying.
Also, on August 7, the Chapman's will be on Larry King Live. I am just thinking about the audience that his show has and those that will hear the gospel shared through this family's example. I am praying that God would be preparing the hearts of those who hear this interview and that lives would be changed for His glory.
And, lastly, the August 13 publication of People Magazine will feature their story.
Pray, Pray, Pray!!!

I am a stay at home mother to 4. I am very blessed to have a godly husband who loves the Lord and his family. I welcome the days of much needed grace, the times of sweet victories, and the tears of trials, knowing it is all for God's glory. I want my lifesong to sing to Him,the author and finisher of my faith. Soli Deo Gloria--To the Glory of God alone.

How brave of them, to share their grief, and their testimony in this way.
I believe they will be an awesome testimony to Jesus' love and grace as they share their tragedy...I'm so glad I found your post!
I just found your post, at 8:10am this morning. I ran to the tv, hoping that I hadn't missed it. Steven was on!!! I'm so glad you shared this, and I'm so glad they bumped it into the 8am hour so I could see it. What a blessing. I can't imagine how hard it was. They were an honor to Christ in every way.
Thank you so much for the reminder. I turned it on at 8 am...he was the first one on. Through tears I thanked God that they were open and that Mary Beth was so honest. We all saw Jesus through them today. We all saw Jesus.

Oh I will pray! I'll pray for their hurting hearts and for the audience who will hear of their faith during this time.
I have been burdened as well for this dear family and cannot imagine their grief. I agree totally in united prayer for this to speak to a nation that seems to be turning hearts away from God. The testimony of the Chapman family despite ongoing sorrow is something that I personally can never forget. I will be praying for their strength and steadfastness as they share their story - may it ALL Glorify Him. Thanks Kim for posting about this.
It was an amazing, God honoring interview and I know the Lord heard all of those prayers offered up in faith over the past several weeks concerning today's interview as well as the Larry King Live and People Magazine feature. The Chapman's have touched so many lives and I, like you have such a special place in my heart for them. It's been such a blessing to see the adoption community rally behind this family during this time.
Blessing,
Jeanette
I also beleive that many will hear of His word and lives will be changed. I will also be praying for this world and for the family Char
I was rushing out the door (late!) for work just as their segment came on GMA, so I missed it. I have a dinner meeting tonight and I hoping I make it home in time for Larry King. I guess the third is a charm...I subscribe to People! I've been so very sad over their loss and would love to see them as they share their story.
