Having Fun In Spite Of....
Okay--My sweet husband planned a nice little family trip for us...it is not Disney..although we would like to do that one day soon...it is just a small little get away. But, we have had some small glitches...Mike left ALL of his clothes at home...khakis, jeans, nicer shirts...well,all of his shirts except his Life Is Good T-shirt that he had on. Thankfully we have a washer and dryer in our condo, but he still needs some nicer clothes for certain things we were going to do. I am thinking that Old Navy outlet store may come in handy!

Also, the place we are staying at is a spacious 3 bedroom condo, but the location is not good and since Mike had this all done through a travel agent, he thought it would be fine. We got there and drove way back through this long curvy road and ended up near a campground and a small river for fishing...nothing against campgrounds, but it is just not what we thought it would be like. The website said lake views, internet access, screened in porch...none of which we have...also the swimming pools are a long driving distance away...the resort goes on and on...so everything is really far away. We feel like we are in the woods. It is a little creepy.

So, the romantic dinner is out. We don't feel safe leaving Gracie to babysit way out in Timbukto.

Sometimes things don't turn out the way we envision and dream for them to...but it makes life interesting-that is for sure! : )

I feel bad for Mike..he feels terrible about it!

I think it will be something we will look back on and laugh...I am laughing now, but last night Mike said he is not laughing. Poor guy!

Oh I can totally relate!!! I planned a B&B getaway for my hubby and I to surprise him for his birthday, and picked a beautiful little place(in the brochure) with a "Treehouse" for a romantic private breakfast.

Reality was... A old, overgrown house that looked like something from Hansel and Grettal, and the treehouse was a DECK off the kitchen. It was SOOO CREEPY, I was nervous staying there.

I can really understand how disappointed your hubby is.

I will pray you all have fun anyway, and I'm sure he will be laughing soon!

Hi Kim!!!
Our family had a similar situation when we were growing up. My dad found this FABULOUS hotel and booked it for us and we were so prepared to enjoy ourselves for a week. We got there and it was DISGUSTING!!! Nothing at all like the travel brochures said!! LOL!! We survived one night there and the next morning we headed down to a nice hotel! As upset as my dad was about the bad hotel and bad advertising, it is the one vacation that I remember more than any others!! LOL!! We had a great time and made great memories and still laugh about that icky hotel years later!! :)

His,
Mrs. U

We have a vacation coming up - I hope our hotel is okay! Yikes! I know your family will enjoy the time together despite the surroundings.

Kim-
This reminds me of something that Taylor told me today. She and my dad and other sis went on a mini getaway to New Mexico. They just got back last night. One of the hotels they stayed in was apparently pretty nasty. They said that there were dozens of flies buzzing around. They were all pretty disgusted. My dad, being the character that he is, hung fly paper all around the hotel room leaving a funny surprise for the people who were cleaning up the room the next morning.

I am sorry that your place is creepy. It could be worse. :) Thanks for the laugh!

I'm sorry but it seems to me if things aren't going your way, all you do is complain. You have 4 healthy children and a husband who apparantly tried to give you a nice anniversary. Be grateful.

Hehe. Some trips are just like that, aren't they? I hope you find lots of unexpected pleasures too.

OH DEAR! I'm sorry it isn't working out...but you're right, one day you'll look back and laugh.

On our honeymoon, we had the WORST room in the world. Dingy, and SO tiny you could hardly fit around the bed! NOW we can laugh at it...at the time? Not so much.

Sorry that it is not what you are used to but at least you have a chance to get away with your family. We have not had a family vacation for several years. I would think any chance to get away with my family would be awesome...in the boonies or not. Be grateful that he was so sweet to plan something and that you have the opportunity to show your chidlren that it is not all about going to Disney World or Destin that matters.

Sorry it's not what you'd envisioned. One day you'll laugh about it, but right now, yuck. Sorry too for some of the cranky comments on this post--I don't know why some folks feel they have to do that.
