10 Things I Love About Running...
I have been working really hard with my running...trying to increase my distance and become a "real" runner! What I have found is that the more I run, the more I love it. I have been a runner on and off since high school and I am one of those who can't go too long without getting outside and taking off on foot. I did join a gym once for a year and did not like that at all...too confining, too many people, and just not a good environment. I do not like running on a treadmill; I guess I could if I had to, though. I have never run while pregnant or when I had a newborn...mainly because when I was pregnant, I was so sick, it was good for me to be able to walk into the bathroom to throw up and there was no way I could do anything that required fast movements or hard breathing! With a newborn, it is so important to set up good feeding schedules and sleep patterns, that all my time went into those 2 things for at least the first few months.
I have been getting all ready for the cold weather and have even had to wear a few warmer things since some mornings have been cooler lately. I really enjoy running when it is cold, but it requires some accessories...like an Asics headband, some bondi bands (mainly to keep my hair back), gloves, and a hat for when it is really cold...and then there are the clothes. I love the Under Armour Cold Gear...that stuff is super light weight, but nice and warm for cold days. I also have a few of the Nike items for cold weather that are super warm, too. I will probably look into buying a nice lightweight jacket this year...maybe Asics or Under Armor...any recs from runners on a good one?
If you have not given running a chance, you need to try it....or maybe just taking some long fast walks...it is so good for you and makes you feel great!

The thing I don't like:
Strange dogs...especially big ones.

Here are 10 things I love about running:
1) The 30 or so geese that fly over my head honking loudly every morning...it never fails!
2) The sweet ladies I see almost every morning out walking.
3) The wide open space of being in the outdoors.
4) The darkness when I leave my house and watching the sunrise or more light appearing as I run.
5) The times when I pray and have intercession for others.
6) The energy I feel when I am done.
7) Knowing I am doing something good to keep my body healthy.
8) Running shoes...I love them! Asics Gel Nimbus are my all time favorites!
9) The deer, bunnies, and foxes I sometime see.
10) The sound of my feet hitting the path. I don't know why I like this, but I do!
Okay, I think I am becoming obsessed.

I am a stay at home mother to 4. I am very blessed to have a godly husband who loves the Lord and his family. I welcome the days of much needed grace, the times of sweet victories, and the tears of trials, knowing it is all for God's glory. I want my lifesong to sing to Him,the author and finisher of my faith. Soli Deo Gloria--To the Glory of God alone.

I don't like the dogs either! Great job on the running. I was loving it this past year too but after I got pregnant, I had to stop. I know some people run while pregnant, but not me. I hope to start back sometime after the baby gets settled into a schedule!
I am not a natural runner. My knees don't like it very much. That's why my elliptical is my friend. No impact. I like the feeling you get when you "hit your stride"....like you could go forever!
i've been the same way - didn't run when i was pregnant or had little babies. and, i'm not a fan of gyms or treadmills either. unfortunately i have to use the treadmill in the winter here because it gets too icy and dangerous, but i am thankful i have the option.
i've heard a lot of people recommend bondi bands. i'll have to look into those.
I have been working really hard on running and started a couple weeks ago. I've made a calendar next to the treadmill so I can track my progress. Each day I just try to do one more song on my ipod!
Good for you, Melanie!!! That's great! And...your trip to California looked so fun!!!
I was wondering what kind of shoes your wear. I've been wearing Mizunos and like them OK but not thrilled with them. Happy running! Do you ever run any organized races (10k's etc)??
Oh, I can relate to a lot of your 10 things! It is the sum of all those kind of things that makes me love running. I got back out today after a week's break and it was bliss! Also another fan of the great outdoors....if I ever run on the treadmill (very rarely) it feels like twice the distance!
Yippee, Kim!! You are doing SO great!!! And you are SO inspiring!! I have reaaalllllyyy slacked off in exercising lately, but GOOD GRACIOUS, you have motivated me to get back to it tomorrow morning!! THANK YOU!!
His,
Mrs. U
Jill,
I have never run in a race...last year I was going to run a 5k for fun(with my 2 oldest daughters) and got pneumonia-so there went that idea!...the more I think about races, the more I think that would take some fun out of it for me--I would get all nervous...and plus they would take time away from my family. Maybe when my kids are all older...
This was timely for me, and today is the first I've read what you wrote so I decided this before I read this. This 50 yr. old couch potato (worse than a couch potato) began a modified version of the Couch to 5k on Monday. I'm starting out walking for five minutes, then alternation jogging for 1 minute, and walking for four minutes. I barely made it through, but I did it.
I seem to have a problem with a stiff legs. I don't seem to bend my knees like I should be.
Wonderful, Diane! The stiffness should get better as you do more. Keep it up...you will feel so good and be healthier, too!
Thanks for the encouragement Kim!
