Summer Time
Whew...! It is so hot here. For June, that is. We see temps close to the 100 mark in July and August, but I am dripping wet each time I step outside these days. If I run anytime after 7am, I am completely drenched. I love to sweat so that is okay--if I am dressed for it...running shorts, cap, and tops that wicks away the sweat. Loved my early morning run today, but lately my runs have been around 10am...and it is just a tad too hot for me. Running has been great lately and I am so thankful to be pretty much healed from my injury. I do feel it every now and then...like when I hiked a couple of weeks ago, but that was like stair climbing. I was fine the next day. Very thankful...running is such a part of me.

We are having a wonderful summer. I am really careful not to plan too much for my kids, because I really just enjoy having some lazy pool days or just play days for my younger ones...they need it after working so hard all year in school!

So, here is a recap of what has been taking up our days lately.

Lots of time here...our pool. The younger kids want to swim everyday--they love it so much. The water is the perfect temp right now...not too cold...so I will get in, too! I love to do some aqua jogging when it is this hot.

My oldest spent 2 weeks here...she loved it! We are glad to have her home, though.

Jack Henry is playing baseball for the first time. He has been a great first baseman. He counts the outs he gets instead of the runs...that is how he knows who won(by the number of outs). He is the cutest first baseman I have ever seen!

Evie is attending a fun princess camp(day camp) this week at a local children's shop. They are learning etiquette, making crafts, dressing up, eating snacks, and having a tea party on the last day. PERFECT for her.

We have been to Memphis for a fun family day.

I have been having some fun cooking/making some new things from this cookbook.

I have been shopping some here for fun beach clothes for our upcoming trip!

I have been reading through Proverbs and Jonah this summer. Our pastor is preaching in Proverbs right now and the ladies of our church are doing a Bible Study on Jonah, which I can not go to....so I wanted to study along with them. This where I like to have my quiet time.

We recently bought this book and have been reading it during family worship time.

Coming soon....a wonderful beach trip(can't wait), soccer camp for Abigail at Union University, and a trip to Union to get Gracie all registered for the fall and to meet her other 2 roommates.

We are also praying about some or all of our kids going to a small classical preparatory school 2 days a week and homeschooling the other 3 days. It would be different for us...but good in a lot of ways. Just not sure yet...we are so careful about what we choose for our children and this is a big deal. Praying for God's wisdom.

Hi Kim!

I've read here for a long time, but rarely ever comment.

I am a nanny now (was a missionary, then a marketing manager) and the girls I take care of go to a (Christian) homeschool/montessori co-op. They just finished preschool and kindergater.

It's a 3 day a week school and for us (and many long-time homeschool only families)- it's such a great option- the school and the split week.

I'll pray God gives you clarity in this decision, but if my perspective counts for anything- I think those schools can really be a great option and a fun and rewarding experience.

Loved this newsy update, Kim. Your quiet tiem place looks so peaceful. Jack Henry is super cute, and Evei's daycamp sounds wonderful - I have a little one that would love that too!

Thanks for the update Kim! I LOVE Boden clothes...especially for my little girl! We also have the Little Pilgrim's Progress book that I read with Brayden, my oldest...such a great read!! Glad you are back in the running groove with little or no pain!! If you don't mind sharing...what is your reason for considering the classical school? Just curious. Also, are you still pursuing your adoption? Blessings!!

Lori,

We are actually considering it for Abigail...we have decided to keep the little ones at home for now. The school is just 2 days a week...I would still be homeschooling the other 3 days. I love what they are using for curriculum and they are doing lots that I would love to have time to do(Latin--which we did with our older 2 when it was just the 2 of them). The classes are very small and 2 days a week seem like a good balance, esp for Abigail since Gracie will be gone to Union.

We are still considering it for the younger ones...maybe later, not yet.

Kim,

It's been a very long time since I've visited your blog. I wanted to comment about your decision whether or not to send your daughter to the school.

We are sending my 13 yr old d to a classical christian school for the first time this coming yr. She will be doing the University model where she goes 3 days a week. She will be in 8th grade and taking courses including Latin, Logic, and Algebra I Honors. I asked my friend who has been hs for the pat 17 yrs about classical education and this school. She said if she had a school like this in her area, she'd go for it. Her son, who has been hschooled in entire education, will be a SR next yr and just recently rec'd an acceptance letter from Harvard.

Kim,
I just received my own copy of Little Pilgrim's Progress in the mail. Books are my weakness. :) Thanks for the suggestion.

Glad you're enjoying your summer! Hope your beach trip is wonderful! I always enjoy your family beach photos. My little guy broke his arm two days ago so looks like our pool / water play days are over for this summer. :(
