Homeschooling: Priceless Treasures
I found this article today while I had a few minutes on the computer. This article really expresses our hearts,too...we feel our choice to homeschool goes beyond academics and this article by Gregg Harris says it so well. Gregg Harris is the father of Josh Harris...and also Alex and Brett Harris from the Rebelution blog....which I found today, too. Homeschooling is not everyone's choice,I realize that, but we have been greatly blessed by it. When I have more time,I will discuss this topic more in depth, but with sick children,I just had time to give you this link. Just wanted to share!
An update on our children: Abigail is still running fever. This has been going on since Saturday night. We went to the our pediatrician yesterday and she said it is either a viral infection(flu)or mono. The lymph nodes in her neck are very swollen. I feel so bad for her. She has been in bed for 5 days now. Evie and Jack Henry are running fever...they are just not feeling well. I think they both have sore throats. Neither of them are eating very well. And...Gracie has started running low grade fever today as well. So,that makes all 4 sick at once! This stuff, whatever it is,is very contagious and lasting a long time. The grown-ups are doing fine right now. Thank you, everyone, for your prayers.

I am a stay at home mother to 4. I am very blessed to have a godly husband who loves the Lord and his family. I welcome the days of much needed grace, the times of sweet victories, and the tears of trials, knowing it is all for God's glory. I want my lifesong to sing to Him,the author and finisher of my faith. Soli Deo Gloria--To the Glory of God alone.

I just finished reading that article. It is excellent and I give a hearty "Amen!"
I am so sorry your children are suffering right now...and you. Hugs and prayers for you tonight.
OH SO SORRY your kiddos aren't feeling well! That's so hard!!! Samuel had the fever bug (definitely wasn't mono for him, and I hope it isn't for yours!!!). His lasted 7 days!!! It was LONG! Seems like all our friends have been getting it too, and it's lasting around 7 days! I pray your children will be freed from this fever and will rest well tonight!!!
I haven't read the article, but thanks for sharing it! I definitely want to read that!! We are just starting to look into what we'll do for homeschooling. If you ever have any suggestions...send em our way! Leslie was sweet enough to answer some q's for me : ) But the thought of homeschooling with ALL the curriculums out there can be quite overwhelming! We are at a church where about 80% of the kids are homeschooled....but the currics used are all over the map!
We are in a church where most homeschool, too with a bunch of different techniques and approaches. I think they the key is finding what works well for your family. There are lots of good things out there! We use a smorgasbord of things. But,we are pretty traditional textbooks style.
I can and will offer any help that I can! Email me anytime!
So sorry to hear that everyone is so sick. Saying a prayer for you guys.
I don't homeschool but in the last couple days I sure wish I would have. I'll have to pop over to those sites just to have a peek.
Awesome, awesome article. I think I'll post a link to it on my homeschool blog. I can't say enough what a blessing and a GIFT homeschooling has been in our life and family. I thank God for it every single day, even on hard days! Each summer I listen through the Gregg Harris tape series to remind myself, anew, why we are doing what we are doing. This article is just what I needed during this Jan./Feb. "slump" which is so typical.
Praying for the health of all in your home! :)
Oh, I really hope you all get better soon. Love the photo from Wednesday too, by the way!
Thanks for the link. I just printed it out and hope to read it when the boys are all napping. :) We've just recently decided to put our oldest (5yrs) in the Christian school next year as opposed to homeschool. It just hasn't worked well this year with where God has us right now. I feel a little overwhelmed at the moment with 3 other little ones and another to arrive soon, and we don't want his education to suffer from my lack of consistency. I'm sure we'll revisit the idea with him later or definitely with the others as they come along. I've enjoyed catching up on your writings.
Oh I feel for you all. I will pray you don't get it. I am still dealing with it - over two weeks now. I went back to the dr. yesterday to make sure it wasn't strep again (3rd gag!) and too bad it's not. It is a LONG virus that only time and TLC will win out. Stay well Kim!
Hope everyone is feeling better.
This is an excellent article and great reminder for all of us as parents.
Wow, what a compelling article. We just started homeschooling our kids in preschool this year. I think I should read an article like this everyday before beginning to keep my mind focused on what is really important! Thanks for the great post!
Thank you for the link...I'll go check it out! :)
I sure hope your little ones get over that nasty bug! Does not sound fun!
Blessings!
Your site is really helping me in thinking about homeschooling. I am soooooo torn about what road we are going to take. Our daughter is four and a half. We have to make some decisions soon. I know I won't put her in public school. I worked there for seven years. I whole heartedly agree with all the reasons as to why we SHOULD homeschool, but I am just so afraid of failing!!!! Afraid of keeping her from something....though when I think back on my own elementary years I think of terrible experiences I had. (Good ones, too, but you know what I mean). I have several friends who are really great homeschoolers, but they have multiple children which would seem to make it more fun. We have one at the moment and adopting another is going to take such a feat. I have gone to your links on HS and am starting to gather info. I don't want to get caught up in the "ideal" of homeschooling. Though I have a precious daughter she tends to clam up and buck me when I try to "teach" her something. Are any of yours like this? I know you are so busy with sick children, but I know you will read this at some point. Thanks for your help to a complete stranger!! HA! ; )
Hope all are feeling better soon, and that you are graced with all you need to care for your little ones.
