I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! We celebrated our daughter's birthday, which was fun! We started Saturday with a yummy breakfast cooked by daddy...delicious pancakes, fresh strawberries, and whip cream. We love to celebrate special days with a yummy breakfast for the honored family member. One of Gracie's favorite gifts was a bookmark from me. Gracie reads non stop...so I knew this would be a perfect gift for her! She loved the quote since Louisa May Alcott is one of her favorite authors! Kim at Hireath made it...she does a beautiful job with her calligraphy and her designs are just lovely! You can go here to see Gracie's and other designs...or she will custom make one with a special verse or quote! I bought one for Gracie and 2 other ones to give to friends as gifts. I'm hoping to ask her to make one with my blog name on it...to kinda match my blog design. I think that would be fun! Please go here to see what she can make! They are great gifts!
Later on Saturday, Mike kept the little ones so that the 2 older girls and I could have a girls day out in honor of the birthday girl! We had a fun day of going to Starbucks, shopping at 2 different malls, a trip to Target, and dinner out with dessert! It was fun! I try to do this with my older ones often. Our shopping trips have started to become a tradition...kinda like the Mahaney girls. I hope to keep it up even when they are adults...as long as they don't move too far away!
On a more serious note, I am going to be posting on our reasons we have chosen to homeschool in a post later this week. Mike and I have been discussing this very important topic a lot lately and with all the talk about it in the blogworld, I have decided to address it here. It will not be negative towards other ways of educating children, but will just show some of the positives we have seen from our experience. I may touch on some of the problems we have tried to avoid. I am hoping it will be encouraging to other families and will be honoring to the Lord. It has been such a blessing to our lives.
Have a great Monday! Please go here to see more menu ideas!
Some food for thought:
Do you, O distressed sinner--need . . .
a loving God,
a compassionate God,
a reconciled God,
a sin-pardoning God,
a tender-hearted God?
Here you may find Him in the covenant of grace!
Do you, O sinner--need a Christ . . .
to counsel you by His wisdom,
to clothe you with His righteousness,
to enrich you with His grace,
to enlighten you with His eye salve,
to justify you from your sins,
to reconcile you to God,
to secure you from wrath to come,
to bring you to heaven?
Here you may find Him in a covenant of grace!
Do you, O sinner! need the Holy Spirit . . .
to awaken you,
to convince you of sin, righteousness and judgment,
to enlighten and teach you,
to lead and guide you in the everlasting way,
to cleanse you,
to comfort you?
Here you may find Him in the covenant of grace!
O sinner! Do you need grace, all grace, great grace,
abundance of grace, multiplied grace? Here you may
find it in the covenant of grace!
O sinner! Do you need peace, or ease, or rest, or
quiet in your conscience? Here you may find it in
the covenant of grace!

I am a stay at home mother to 4. I am very blessed to have a godly husband who loves the Lord and his family. I welcome the days of much needed grace, the times of sweet victories, and the tears of trials, knowing it is all for God's glory. I want my lifesong to sing to Him,the author and finisher of my faith. Soli Deo Gloria--To the Glory of God alone.

Menu Plan
Dear Kim,
I am looking forward to your posts on homeschooling. We homeschooled for years when our kids were younger and then they went into school.
Our 15 year old daughter asked me to homeschool her again as she is struggling with living for the Lord with all the peer pressure around her. How do you argue with that!?!
I am so blessed that she wants to be home and look forward to next year with her.
Blessings,
Sue
I love your menu ideas and thank you for them!
Looking forward to your homeschooling post, Kim!
wow, you are so organized!! great menu plan.
I'm really looking forward to your homeschool post, Kim! :)
I appreciate that you're not bashing. I've seen enough of that in the homeschool blogging world. We've been homebase educating our teen for 2 years and will continue thru to graduation. It definitely works for him and our family.
I look forward to reading your post.
Enjoy the recital.
Your menu sounds wonderful.
Have a great week!
ktwCute bookmarks! I have so many friends that homeschool so I'll be looking forward to your post. I read the posts on Challis and didn't realize there was a divide.
Thanks for the chicken cacciatore recipe--that looks great!
Your daughter's birthday sounds lovely. I would have loved that when I was a kid.
Kim, I am just reading some of the homeschool blog post, I look forward to your homeschool post.
Can I come for breakfast on Thursday?=)
Kim-
Thanks for your comments to my blog. I appreciate your balanced perspective on the topic. Like I said, I truly believe that this is an area of Christian freedom. As such, parents make decisions based on their own families, areas, personalities, childrens' needs, etc.
I will look forward to your posting. And please know that I am not out to offend or be argumentative. I just have a heart for my little neighbors, and I cannot stand it when blog posts are disparaging towards well-intentioned, and honoring Christians. :)
Great menu, and happy Birthday to your daughter!! It sounds like you had a LOT of fun! I am excited to read your homeschool post, I have started writing one myself, (on the reasons), because I will be starting to homeschool in the Fall! I am looking forward to your post!
Thanks for sharing those bookmarks. They are beautiful! I love your birthday traditions with your kids. What a wonderful way to help celebrate their special day. Thanks for the great ideas.
