As Jack Henry would say *Ewwww...Yuck!*
I woke this morning to hives. Ewww...Yuck is right! I first noticed a little bit of itchiness on my wrist when I got up to get in the shower...I looked down and saw hives all over the inside of my arms. So, I checked the rest of me...they were all over my legs and mid-section,too. I got my husband up and he gave me 2 benadryl pills. I took a shower and we went to church. The medicine did its job- the hives went down a little, but they are still there.
Now, I am home and just not feeling well. I am itchy on my neck and still have hives scattered around my body. There is no breathing problems, although I have felt kinda funny at times...my chest feels somewhat tight at times, but I don't think it is anything serious.
The only thing I can think of is that I have been drinking lots of grapefruit juice lately. I had a glass full last night before I went to bed. I, also, took my younger ones on a walk yesterday in the woods. I have not had any medicines that would cause an allergic reaction or anything, so I am just sitting here hoping it will all go away really soon. Will you pray for me? I would appreciate it.
And if anyone knows what might be causing this, would you please pass the info on? I've read all the info on the internet about hives and they all say the same thing. I'm thinking that maybe the grapefruit juice has something to do with it.

I am a stay at home mother to 4. I am very blessed to have a godly husband who loves the Lord and his family. I welcome the days of much needed grace, the times of sweet victories, and the tears of trials, knowing it is all for God's glory. I want my lifesong to sing to Him,the author and finisher of my faith. Soli Deo Gloria--To the Glory of God alone.

Kim,
I will definitely pray for you. I hope you feel better soon! :)
Sorry to hear about the hives. I've had several occasions where I've broken out, but nothing I'd eaten/drank/or done was the same...the doctor finally attributed it to stress. Benedryl helped me, so I'm sorry I don't have any other advice.
I googled and found some reference to the use of "Carmine" as a red coloring in various foods including pink Ocean Spray grapefruit juice, various other pink foods, and to people having hive or other allergic reactions to it. So if it is an allergy, it may not be to the grapfruit juice per se, but rather to the pink color (if it was the pink kind you had).
Good luck.
Kim, grapefruit juice is notorious for interacting with medications and causing problems. Even if your meds don't cause an allergy problem, mixing with the juice may cause one. Also citrus allergies are common, so maybe you've overloaded your system.
I've prayed for you; hope you feel better soon.
Thanks so much for your prayers.
Pam,
That carmine info is interesting...I had hawaiian punch on Friday night, which is something I never ever drink, but I had some at a birthday party. It is definitely red.
The grapefruit juice was not the pink kind, though.
Thanks so much for the info!
I will pray for you Kim. People who have a reaction to red coloring or red dye usually react to all foods, icing, juices, medicines, etc. My 5 year old has an allergy to red dye 40 which is found in most of those things I listed. If you never react the same icing or medicines, it may not be the red. I hope you feel better soon.
I will be praying for you Kim! I hope those yucky hives disappear soon!
Prayers for you Kim! I too have had unexplained hives so I am no help towards a cause.
I hope you feel better very soon.
Blessings :)
Oh I'm so sorry! I hope you find out what is causing it soon!! And that you aren't too miserable in the meantime!
I'm so sorry Kim. As I have never had any experience with hives I can't pass along any advice, but I can definitely pray for you. Hope you're feeling better soon! God Bless!
Ooo, so sorry! I'll be praying that they go away fast and that you can figure out how not to get them again.
A walk in the woods?? Do you think it's possible you may have crossed some poison ivy or something?
I'm probably wrong. I think that spreads at a slower rate. I do hope you figure out what it is soon.
Saying a prayer for you!
Andrea L.
Oh no...I am praying, Kim! Let us know you're feeling...
I'll be praying as you walk through this discomfort....especially as you take care of your family. I hope they are better soon and that you see your trust in the Lord grow even in this little trial. See you soon!
Definitely praying for you sweet Kim. Hope you find the source of the problems soon and some relief as well.
I'm hoping its just an allergic reaction to something. How have you been feeling otherwise? I broke out in severe hives during stressful times but also as a result of having fibromyalgia. Some autoimmune diseases have hives as a symptom. I always think everyone else has FMS so please don't let this worry you! I just want you to look at the whole picture. Have you had body aches lately? Fatigue? Soreness in the muscles?
If the benedryl doesn't do the trick you may need a shot of cortizone.
Praying for you! I know how horrible they are!
