Monday Menus and First Day of School!
Update: Here is a great link for preschool ideas to occupy little ones with fun and educational activities while doing school with other siblings. I found it very helpful! Check this out for some great ideas!

It is a beautiful, but hot(102 degrees!), Monday morning here and we are beginning our school year! So far everything has gone well and the Lord has been so kind to allow my younger ones to do well during school time with Abigail. JH and Evie both enjoyed the *Monday* box. We will have to work on cleaning it up better...Our theme for Monday is animals, so it has animal baby books, 2 animal puzzles, Baby Einstein animal flash cards, nature cards, plastic play animals,a toy that has animal sounds, and a going to the zoo dvd. Evie and JH had cleaned up the box...which was good. It just all wasn't put back in zip loc bags and the puzzles were not all together...hopefully the neater aspect will improve as the days go by. It is definitely something we will be working on. I thought for the first day it went well. I'm loving all of our Sonlight things...and the Teaching Textbooks Math seems like a hit with my older 2!

I have not posted my Monday menu in a long time, but I thought starting a new school year is a great time to get all organized and ready for my meal planning. We have been really relaxed over the summer. You may notice most of our lunches are not the healthiest choices...I asked the kids what they would like for lunch this first week of school. So, I am trying to make some things they really like.

Monday--
Breakfast-scrambled eggs, sausage, toast
Lunch-Chili and Cheese hot dogs, tater tots, fruit
Dinner-Erica's Delicious slow cooker beef roast(with carrots), dinner theater green beans, whole kernel corn, rolls

Tuesday--
Breakfast-Danish, juice
Lunch-Bean and cheese burritos, taco rice
Dinner- Pork chops, cheesy scalloped potatoes, green peas, garden salad

Wednesday--
Breakfast-Cereal day
Lunch-Turkey and cheese sandwiches, apple wedges
Dinner-Eat out....(Can you tell Wednesdays are going to be our easy day?)

Thursday--
Breakfast-French Toast and syrup,turkey bacon
Lunch-Chicken strips, baked beans, yogurt
Dinner- Steaks grilled out, baked potatoes, sauteed asparagus

Friday--
Breakfast-Wild berry muffins, strawberries
Lunch-Cheese pizza
Dinner-?

Have a wonderful week everybody!!! : )

Kim~
I'll be praying for you as you enter your new Home Schooling Year!

I'm so amazed at how you do...all that you do! What a great testimony (to the rest of us) of how God gives grace!!

Hi Kim! It's our first day here too. It has been a good day so far, except for when my 2 year old broke a light bulb (it was a big round one)and it shattered all over the kitchen floor. It took me almost an hour to clean it up. I like your idea of the boxes for the little ones. I may try that.

Thanks for posting your menu. It's always good to get new ideas and I appreciate when you share recipes too.

Did you end up getting your bike trailer yet? If so, what did you decide on?

No, my husband is still in the research mode! ha! Mike and I did go on a 15 mile(about) ride last night. I'm hoping to get one for the nice cool fall days! I think it would be a lot of fun to take the kids along!

Kim! I've missed you :)

Your menu always inspires me to get moving in the right direction.

It also makes me hungry.

Sounds like you guys are starting off to a great week!

I have some questions about the boxes. Do the Monday boxes stay the same for each Monday and so on...How long do they occupy your little guy? This idea sounds like something I may want to use as well.

Blessings!

I'm so glad your first day of school is going well for everyone. We still have 2 weeks of summer left. I'm ready to get back to a schedule. I think my girls need it.

Kim,

I have a topical dvd to go along with each day...so that when he is through playing with everything, that is the last thing he can do...but I tell him he can watch it only if he has played for a long while(about 20-30 minutes)then I allow him to watch a tape. That way it takes up about an hour for him to be occupied. I spend an hour with Evie and an hour with Abigail in the mornings, so this should work well...of course for your Samuel, he could use more age appropriate things. Evie played with JH this morning and told him all the animals on the flash cards and such. She she actually liked it too.

I'm thinking I may change them up every 4 months or so. I will probably add new things occasionally, just to keep it interesting. I'll have to think on ways to make it work. As he gets older, I may add things like Color Wonder, stickers and paper, coloring sheets, etc. he likes to color now, but it isn't something he will sit and do for long...he really likes to dump the crayons out and smash them. : ) We are working on this....

Tuesday is trucks and tractors...so along with his fun toys, he has a John Deere dvd to watch, too. But this is only after he has played.

I'll have to update how it goes. I have a link I'll add to my post today that has lots of fun preschool ideas....that may help you more than what I do.

Ha! ha! I eat it...but I exercise a lot, too! I do love salads, though and sometimes just munch on a huge salad instead of a full meal.

Oh I love the sound of the boxes too....but my little girl is so much younger, only 16 months. I will definitely be brainstorming ways to make something like this work for us. I've been letting each of the older ones take turns playing with her. While I help one the other is playing with her in a different room. Anyway, I'm glad you're back. I really enjoy your posts! :)

I love the menu ideas. It is so easy to get in a rut with the same foods over and over that it is nice to see someone else's plan.
We are a new home school family this year looking forward to serving God and raising these kids up in His will.

Hey, welcome back! I didn't realize you had started posting again! Thanks for the preK link...I will check that out.

Have a great school year. We aren't starting for a few more weeks.

Thanks for the link.

We are starting school next week. I am excited for the opportunity to teach my kids another year, but a little nervous, since this year I will officially be schooling 4. Not like I wasn't schooling 4 since the moment the fourth was born, but the pressure seems to be greater once you start gathering books and such for them. I also like your menu ideas, thanks for sharing, I need all the help I can get! I will be praying that you guys have a great school year!
