Popcorn, Anyone?
What could be better than a big bowl of Smart Balance popcorn and a night of watching the Republican debate in South Carolina on my beloved Fox News? Not much. Boy, I live an exciting life! It was such a fun time, very entertaining...I just wish my husband could have been here with me. But, he had something very important to be at that had him out of town for a few hours. It was much more important and meaningful than the debate, but still he missed a good one.
I take all of this very seriously. I'm not really smart when it comes to politics, but I deeply care about our country's leadership. I like to be as informed as possible. The confusion over Huckabee still has me concerned...and it seems rather strange that there is such mixed views about him. On the one hand, I liked some of the things he said tonight, but then he sounded very liberal on other issues.
We started out thinking that Fred Thompson was the most clear cut conservative running, but when Huckabee gained that momentum in Iowa, we began thinking that maybe he is the one to support. Now after reading quite a bit and studying up on some things, we are having trouble with Huckabee. I have so much respect for those I know you are supporting Mike Huckabee...like Bret and Alex Harris from the Rebelution blog....and Mike Farris from the Home School Legal Defense Association. It is hard to figure it all out....thankfully my husband knows much more about it than I do. I can trust his judgement.
And it seems we still keep coming back to Fred Thompson...but in our minds we think that he has not done well enough yet to really move forward. Does he have a chance at this point? By the time it gets around to us voting we may only have a few options left and that could totally change who I vote for.
As far as tonight's debate goes, Fred Thompson did the best in my opinion. In fact, he seemed very strong, presidential, and able to be a very capable and successful candidate against the democratic candidate, which will probably be Obama or Hillary. He seemed to be more forthright and confident than the other debaters. He was, in my opinion, able to win the election based on what he said tonight.
But, I just don't really know yet. I just like venting my thoughts here.
I promise this is not becoming a political blog...

I am a stay at home mother to 4. I am very blessed to have a godly husband who loves the Lord and his family. I welcome the days of much needed grace, the times of sweet victories, and the tears of trials, knowing it is all for God's glory. I want my lifesong to sing to Him,the author and finisher of my faith. Soli Deo Gloria--To the Glory of God alone.

thanks for sharing this kim. i have lots to learn about all of them before i know for sure who i will vote for. the debates are helping w/that.
I too watched the debate with great interest (but no popcorn...wish I'd thought of it!). Fascinating stuff, to be sure!
Hi Kim, I started watching the debate but fell asleep (yes, I lead an exciting life too!!) I'm confused as well - we chatted about this at our homeschool park day. There is a lot of concern about Huckabee and our primary is coming up and I have no idea who to vote for. (Not like it matters too much, I think the Republican's penazlied FL for moving the primary and we lost half our delegates. And all the democratic ones - funny - they aren't even campaigning here :)
I enjoy you sharing your thoughts--it is a lot to wade through!
I have very similar feelings as far as where I stand. I am glad the election is not today. I would certainly be torn.
Thanks for sharing your insight :)I linked to your previous post on my blog.
Blessings!
Hey Kim, Wade and I were talking his parents over dinner. We think, too, that Fred Thompson SEEMS to most line up with what we believe. I don't think he can win the nomination, but I also don't know that the Republicans have a candidate that can beat Obama or Clinton. BUT God can do anything ,right? We just keep researching, listening and reading to find out what we can. Sounds like what you are doing. May God honor our diligence. Talk to you soon!
I agree with you about Thompson. And, for the record, I have heard Rush Limbaugh say that he is the MOST conservative of our choices so far. Sadly, I don't think he has much of a chance.
I seriously question Huckabee too. How in the world can he have support from the HSLDA AND the NEA at the same time?? Something just doesn't mesh there.
I'm thankful that "God controls the heart of the king" and that we can totally trust that HE is in control!tm
I don't like Huckabee's stance on immigration. A few months across I listened to Duncan Hunter, and was very impressed by him. So, I'm voting for him unless he drops out. If he drops out, it will be the first election I will not be vote in since I was 18, and I will be 50 at the time of the election. Here is his website:

No, he has little chance of winning, but he's the only one I can vote for with a clear conscience.
We need someone well rounded in everything presidential !!!
