Grace Upon Grace
For of His fullness we have all received grace upon grace. John 1:16

This is a summary of a devotional by John MacArthur that I read recently:

Is God's grace a thrilling thing to you? It should be...this is what grace has done:

1) He poured out His grace on me, first of all.

2) He forgave ALL my sins.

3) He granted me the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

4) He gave my understanding of His Word---He opened my eyes.

5) He called me to a spiritual ministry.

6) Everyday He gives me rich communion with other believers.

7) He enables me to see the world as His handiwork.

8) I am His child.

9) He loves me in a personal way.

What I could not do for myself, he has done! When left on my own, with no intervention from God, I would have not chosen Him. I would have stubbornly stayed in my own selfish sinful state and enjoyed it. He chose me and drew my heart to His. Without that *drawing* I would be lost in my sins and trespasses and would ultimately receive death. He opened my eyes to see my helpless state and gave me His grace and loved me...when I was a sinner, Christ died for me. Isn't it just all grace that He would choose any? The just and fair thing would be for all of us to die in our sins? Praise God that His grace has been poured out on us.
