This is our Eve Addison...our third child. We prayed for more children and God gave her to us. We had 2 daughters whom we loved dearly, but God gave us a desire for more children....it didn't happen as soon as we would have liked, but God's plans are right and perfect. Who are we to determine the timing of such wonderful things? God is the creator of life. When our daughters were 7 and 9,we found we were expecting number 3(Evie). We were thrilled. I had 2 children in my 20's and then beginning again in my 30's with 2 more. We are so thankful that God chose for us to have more children. I often wonder, though, does the world see the blessing of children? Are children seen as a reward like scripture teaches? Do parents raise their children for the glory of God? What would our lives be like if we did not have our 2 little ones? We are so richly blessed by their lives already and thank God for them each day.

Then,I think about how some see children as an interference....a hindrance to enjoying life,a burden....now,these parents may not come out and say that to the child, but I have heard these kinds of ideas coming from well-meaning parents. Some examples are: I can't wait until these kids are grown up and out of the house,so I can do what I want to do. Or, children are too expensive.....Or,why would you want more children....you already have your hands full....comments like these say to me that children are a burden. This is sad. The really sad thing is that this is accepted philosophy in the world. It is comomon place thinking, even among christians. Now,I realize God does not plan for all families to be larger and some couples have trouble having children....I am not referring to that at all....there is no magic number for how many children a family should have, but I would love to see parents think more biblically about their children....that they ARE a blessing....they are NOT a burden. They are to be enjoyed, trained to think biblically, trained to serve and love others, and to glorify God with their lives. This is a reminder to me as well....on the hard days,on the days when the children are grumpy, not obedient, when I am not feeling good, when I am feeling grumpy....etc. It all comes back to self, doesn't it? Children are not seen as a blessing when we start focusing on ourselves. The ugly *I want what I want* philosophy interferes with our desire to live to please God.

Children Are A Blessing....

May we all live in light of this truth. (including me--especially me!)

BTW, I tried to reply to your comment on my post, but the email said it was not recieved. So here's the answer: I get it at any coffee shop. Just order whatever chocolate mocho coffee they have with added valencia orange syrup. I like mine with the whipped cream. For as often as I get it it's a treat so I go all the way, but you could ask for foam instead if you want. It tastes like one of those chocolate oranges, you know? Yumm! Be bold. I've tried raspberry, mango, passionfruit. Sometimes I just listen to what the person in front of me is ordering and if it sounds good, I give it a try.

My third comment on one post, that's got to be a record. I'm glad I came back because when I was here before just the picture was up with no post.

Kim that was beautifully put. Children are a blessing. And we as a society need to start looking at them that way again. You put it so beautifully.

Kim, what a terrific reminder and a beautiful post. I don't want to ever forget what a blessing my children are or take them for granted! Your daughter is just precious. Laura

What a great post Kim, tonight my husband and I went out for a meal with my sister and brother-in-law and we were talking about the very same thing! I loved reading this and couldn't agree more.

What a great picture, so cute!

I love what you said. I SO agree! Before I had kids, I thought I only wanted 2, so they would not "interfere" w/my future life plans. God has completely changed my heart and perspective. We have 3 now and are enjoying them so much. We would love to have more someday, in His timing.

Your daughter is lovely, the photo is lovely, and her name is lovely.

And this is so true! I'm amazed at how many Christians have the same comments as the world regarding children. Something I was reading lately pointed out that the Bible says that children are a heritage (or inheritance)from the Lord. And how many people would say, "oh, I've inherited enough money, please don't give me anymore." But our comments, attitudes, or actions can convey that we see children as less valuable.

Kim I have loved this post and read it last week but could not take the time to leave a comment. We have three beautiful blessings and the Lord has always left a tugging in my heart for another. It will be exciting to see what the future holds.

Blessings!
