I Guess I'll Let You In On A Little Secret....
I did have a birthday yesterday...and I turned 40! It was really a nice day...it kinda started last weekend for me,though. My husband took me out to one of my favorite quiet restaurants for a delicious romantic dinner together. I had the most delicious grilled mahi mahi...prepared some way I can't explain, but it was very good! It had roasted red peppers on top with some kind of sweet sauce. Yummmm....I love to eat fish that is prepared in such a fancy way, because when I make it at home, it is pretty plain! We had a wonderful evening. After dinner, we went shopping a little and then headed to a grocery store to check out the organic section, where I was able to find one of the Kashi cereals I had been wanting. They had it! Yea! We didn't go to my favorite grocery store, The Fresh Market, because my husband said he didn't want our evening spent in grocery stores! I agreed! So, we were off to Starbucks for a decaf skinny latte and low fat cherry lemon coffee cake and some wonderful time of quiet conversation. It was so enjoyable!
Last night,I prepared my regular meal from my menu plans and my children made strawberry cupcakes for dessert! My big girls organized the baking time and the little ones helped. I went to another part of the house, so they could do it alone. They turned out really yummy and I thought it was so sweet of them to do this!
Now to the fun part! The gifts!!! My sweet husband got me this!
I was so excited! I love a Panini sandwich...so now I can make them to my little heart's content! I made some for lunch today and as soon as I can get the ingredients, I am going to make a grilled chicken panini with mushrooms, roasted red peppers, spinach, provolone cheese, and a touch of olive oil.
Okay, I am realizing my entire post is about food! That is so funny! I guess celebrations are centered around food.
On to a different topic.
One thing I have been meditating on is this verse from Psalms. "So Teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12. As the new year begins and I face a new decade of years on this earth, I am reminded of how precious each day is and every day really does matter. How I spend that time is a responsibility I do not take lightly. We all need to rest and have *down time*, but for the most part our days must be planned and organized in a way that we can serve the Lord and do it the best we can. How can we do this? First of all by spending time in His word early in the morning...or anytime. I want to be student of His word, so I will know how best to obey and serve Him. I must be walking in obedience throughout my days....putting aside anger, malice, unwholesome speech, impatience, thoughtlessness and putting on the things that God says to...a heart that loves Him and others...forgiveness, joyfulness, wholesome speech, patience, kindness as well as many other attributes of godliness. How do I do it? Only through God's grace can I do anything right. So each day, I begin in His Word, asking the Lord to shower His grace on me. Each day I need to be thinking and meditating on the cross and how that makes a difference in what I do each day.
Ephesians 4:1 Walk worthy of the calling with which you were called.
John MacArthur says in Truth For Today:
Do you have any idea of what a high calling it is to serve Christ? Paul said, I... beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called. In ancient times, a victor at the Olympic Games once asked, "Spartan, what will you gain by this victory?" He replied, I, sir, shall have the honor to fight on the front line for my king." May that be your response to the call of Your King.
So, as I number these days and think on what is best and honoring to my King in this new year, 2008, and my 40th year on this earth, I must remain focused on His cross and His sacrifice for me. For, in that, I see true love, grace, mercy without end, purpose, victory, and hope. It is a high calling and I want to walk worthy of my King.
God Bless you all in 2008.

I am a stay at home mother to 4. I am very blessed to have a godly husband who loves the Lord and his family. I welcome the days of much needed grace, the times of sweet victories, and the tears of trials, knowing it is all for God's glory. I want my lifesong to sing to Him,the author and finisher of my faith. Soli Deo Gloria--To the Glory of God alone.

Happy Birthday Kim! I so enjoyed reading your last couple of posts. Thank you so much for encouraging me in so many ways!
Happy Birthday, Kim! My mother says that 50 is the new 30, so 40 must be the new 20. I'm not sure what that makes me...I'm almost 29, hopefully that isn't the new 9! :)
Thank you for sharing what God has taught and continues to teach you each year in your life.
God Bless!

Happy Birthday!!! Mike did good on the gift!!
Thanks for sharing your heart about planning our days for the glory of the Lord. You already know we don't keep a rigid schedule at my house. But I do make a plan for the day. If we don't stick to it, then the day just goes on by. It always feels wasted when that happens.
Happy, happy birthday!!!
Someone in front of me in line at Target the other day was buying a pannini grill. I tried not to covet it, and I'm doing the same thing right now... for now my George Foreman grill will have to do. ;)
I turned 40 on my last birthday, too, so I've "tested the waters" and I can tell you it is great! Welcome!
Loved your thoughts today.
Happy Birthday!
My husband loves a good panini. We are also fans of the Kashi cereal. Our favorite right now is Cinnamon Harvest.

Happy Birthday, Kim! It sounds like it was a lovely day. I love panini sandwiches, too, and have tried to do them on a George Foreman grill, but it doesn't quite do it right because of the angle. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with your grill!

Happy Birthday, Kim! Welcome to the fabulous forties!!! You still have a way to go to catch up with me=)
I know what I'm asking for for my birthday now, a panini press!
Indeed it is a high calling to serve Christ! Like you Kim, I am striving to have a consistence in my outward life that is dictated by the reality of who I am in Christ! Happy Birthday again.
