Sobering Thoughts About the Importance of Biblical Training
....Especially after celebrating Evie's 5th birthday this week. We love our children and think they are precious, sweet and wonderful in every way...We delight in them. But scripture reminds us of the reality that should bring all parents to their knees.

What her tender infant may grow up to be

(J. C. Ryle)

"Every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood."
Genesis 8:21

"Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time
my mother conceived me." Psalm 51:5

Remember that children are born with a decided bias
toward evil, and therefore if you let them choose for
themselves, they are certain to choose wrong.

The mother cannot tell what her tender infant may
grow up to be—tall or short, weak or strong, wise or
foolish—all is uncertain. But one thing the mother can
say with certainty—he will have a corrupt and sinful
heart! It is natural for us to do wrong. Our hearts are
like the earth on which we tread—let it alone, and it
is sure to bear weeds.

Dear Heavenly Father, May I never see my children as perfect, guiltless, or guaranteed of salvation. May You help me to be diligent in teaching them about the state of our hearts...ALWAYS. May Your wonderful gospel and hope reach my children's hearts, so they can glorify you forever.

Just on a sidenote...I will be continuing to post about courtship and the things we are trying to do with our oldest daughters in the coming days. We have just been busy with celebrations and sickness. All of my children have been sick in the last 4 weeks...one child twice. I am sick today and we chose for me to stay home with Jack Henry...We have learned that the flu has struck some in our church family...and we decided it is best to avoid the nursery for now. Pray that we will all be well and that those who have the flu in our church will recovery quickly!

THank you for posting even though you aren't feeling well.

At our accountability group meeting this past Saturday, the 3 of us w/ children discussed this very thing. Your posts will be so wonderful to help us with our research and time together. The 3 of us have decided to meet monthly as a parenting accountability group to pray specifically for our parenting, our husbands and children, faith training,Biblical training and training our children in the way they should go.

Prayers for your family to feel better and your church family as well.

The flu is taking its toll in our area too. One of my FCC playgroups celebrated CNY a bit early with the local Asian Community Center this past Saturday and several of my fellow adoptive mom friends have been hit with the flu too, one even has pertussis on top of that--they could not join us this year.

Thank you again.

Sometimes it's very easy to forget that our precious children are bent towards sin. Being diligent when they are young makes for a much more enjoyable middle and teen years! Keep up the inspiring and truthful posts!

Sometimes when I think of what we promised when we had our children baptized, it scares me to death. It means SO much!!!!Still, it is our duty, and needs to be taken seriously!

Looking forward to your courtship post. I am really enjoying those!
