When Love Takes You In
Adoption is a beautiful picture of what God did for us as adopting us as His children. He loved us and knew us before we loved Him...He gave us life eternal when we were in a helpless and hopeless state and headed for destruction and death...He showered us with His grace and mercy when we could do nothing of benefit for ourselves. He reached out in love for us when we were unlovely, dirty, wretched, and alone. He gave us the indescribable gift of Christ when we had nothing to give Him in return.

I am His child because Christ did what I could never do for myself.

This is one of the main reasons we have chosen adoption as a way to grow our family. There is a child out there that is all of what I have described above who is in need of our love, a new life, and a place to call home. But even greater than that, there is a child out there in need of a Savior and someone to help point the way.

We have dear friends in the Lord who share this same love for adoption. They will be traveling to Vietnam in about a week to get their son, five year old Jacob. We are so happy for them! In the midst of all the planning, packing, getting things organized for their children who are staying home, and preparing their hearts and home for a new child, they are fulfilling God's plan for the fatherless child. What a blessing to see their heart for the Lord and for this child...it is such a beautiful picture of what Christ has done for us and a great example of godly parents who seek to please the Lord.

Our family has committed to pray for them this week, so I am taking a blog break to set aside more time for prayer. Would each one of you take a few minutes when you visit here to pray for them, too? That would be wonderful!

Keith and Karlyn, May God bless you during this time. My prayer for you all is that God will prepare Jacob's heart for you and he will know that this is where he belongs. You are a testimony of God's love and goodness to us all! We will be praying each day.

An excerpt from "An Orphan's Prayer"
Even as I lay in the darkness
each night somehow I feel assured,
That no matter how lost I appear, I am not alone.
Holy hands guard my steps; sacred fingers wipe my tears, touching my lonely heart.
The one who made me,
The God that knew me before I was born,
Hears me every time I call.
He whispers His promises in my ear.
I listen with hope to His voice.

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father is this:
to visit widows and orphans in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

You know my heart is all about that song! ; ) Played it many times over as well as put our China trip pics to it. Love it and what it stands for! We just discovered another one by an artist named Danny Oertli called "Dancing with Orphans". The lyrics just MELT my heart!! We put pics of our Guatemala trip to an orphanage with it and I just bawl like a baby watching it. Maybe I can get it posted this week.

I can't remember at the moment if you had the chance to read my post on how God revealed to me the reality of my daughter's orphanage through the "baby room" on our mission trip. If not, check it out just for the insight on orphanages.

Still adore your blog! ; )

Great post Kim that is close to my heart. Our adoption really showed me the Father's love for us. Someone once said it is the gospel made visible.

Kim, what a blessing. I love that song- and it has been a huge part of our adoption journey. I wholeheartedly know that our family has been blessed beyond measure with our sweet Katie Mei.

Thank you for that. I have 8 children that I did not "bring home from the hospital", but they are our children. We have permanent custody of them through our court system (long story) BUT my point is, I love, love that song and the story behind it. I actually used it in a slide show I made of one of the kids. Thanks for sharing your story. I will be praying and following along. We have a precious family in our church that just adopted a girl from China.

Kim,
Thanks for visiting me, Well I have not given our entire story, just bits and pieces throughout the blog. I have only been blogging since fall of 07, so maybe I will get inspired to post about how all of this came about. We work for chick-fil-A in one of their homes. www.winshape.org if you are interested. I will enjoy watching as your story unfolds as well. God is so good and powerful in the ways His glory comes about.

Loved this post, Kim. I'm just now getting around to catching up with some of my favorite bloggy friends.

Know that I am still praying as you await Lydia's arrival at God's perfect time. May God uphold you all as you wait.
